RANDOM THOUGHTS:

*I think I let my enjoyment at work be based too much around the people I work with, when someone leaves it affects my enjoyment in the job. I need to change this as I need to have confidence to move forward in my role and do the job myself regardless of the co-workers I work with……… this may be why I tend to lend towards wanting to work by myself or be the boss- so I can control who i work with to an extent

MESSAGE FROM ME:

Hi,

I have decided to not list this blog under my name, as I very private and I just wanted a space where I could get things out of my head.

To me my blog is a space to list my thoughts and try to get them out of my head so I can get some kind of order to them.  From my blog you will get to know a lot about me as it will all just be written down.

I hope you enjoy my blogs and if you have any wisdom on what I’m writing about don’t be shy to sharing it on the post.

THOUGHTS ON WORK TO TRY TO FIGURE OUT MY PASSION:

Below I am going to list what I have liked/ Disliked about my previous job as to find out what I want to do. It will be casually updated 🙂

Ideal:

  • One- three client so I really get to know them and get to see the results
  • Like to see all element of the project and be involve to the end or be shown the results
  • I think I do like the social aspect at work, don’t have to go out every weekend.
  • Possibility to move up or increase my salary

Animals – Horses?

I love horses and often think should I work with them.

But I am not sure if it will ruin my love for them, sometime your favourite hobby might not work as your work?

Advertising Experience:

  • Media Assistant

Role Responsibilities; Pre and Post analysis of media campaigns, monitoring campaigns on a weekly basis, analysing ratings for television/ radio and drawing conclusions, monitoring invoices to ensure correct billing of clients, calculating and reporting on campaign savings to provide a record for clients, booking media for local and National clients, creating media plans in excel and analysis of competitive data

Liked; great team environment/ good banter, good social aspect- work hard and play hard, pitches- exciting but a lot of work

Disliked; got burnt out on the role a bit as worked long hours, very admin based, didn’t get to see the creative, didn’t interact with the clients.

  • Senior TV Research Executive

Role Responsibilities; Managed staff and client accounts, trained clients in a TV Monitoring tool – InfosysTV, assisted with client contracts, answered client queries, created training programs/ material, Maintained and built strong relationships with clients (agencies and broadcasters), Held training session and meetings with trialing clients and converted them to clients.

Liked; Getting out of the office and training broke up the day/week, training enjoyed like presenting

Disliked; helpdesk- answering the phone and dealing with the issue right there, also being out of the office meant you had a lot to deal with when you got back, only involved with the TV data don’t get to do other things like focus groups which i enjoyed at uni.

unsure: dealing with only TV data- got to know it in-depth but can become slightly boring as dealing with the same data/ medium.

  • Advertising Account Service

Co-ordinator

Role Responsibilities; Liaising with clients and managing important client relationships, Identifying opportunities to grow client business, Adhering to strict deadlines, Writing Creative Briefs – Administrating the client brief to production/creative teams, Creating Media Schedules, Using programs such as Indesign/Photoshop/Adobe/ Microsoft office, Booking adverts with the media and managing key media contacts, Managing campaign timelines and campaign quotes, working in the teams that delivered/ won pitches and then I saw them through to conclusion.

Liked; Young team and got on with them- still friends, initial the job was perfect to get back in the industry after not being well,

Disliked: low pay, very process driven so became the same, no where to move up

Executive

Role responsibilities- Managing client expectations and needs for projects, Campaign coordination of project scope and timelines, Attending client meetings/ strategy sessions, Coordinating projects with creative team members – briefing and checking alts, Managing campaign deployments from client brief to final delivery and all key steps and activities involved – briefing, estimating, scheduling, tracking, testing, sign off and reporting, Updating account managers on campaign statuses, issues or requests.

Like; work directly with the MD so am involved in strategy sessions, good banter with the guys in creative, get to see the creative and be there when presented to the client, no stress, get on well with my boss

Dislike; Boss does like to Micromanage so may not get to run the strategy sessions myself, not involved with the biggest client as my boss says he is happy handling it- so not as busy when I could be learning, look after a range of smaller clients so don’t really get to know them in-depth, low salary so don’t feel as appreciated

Manager

Like; being the main contact on the account and able to build strong relationships with client as they know you have the authority on the account. like getting the know the client inside out, including financial.

Dislike; not enough support and it all falls back on the manager, if the team structure is not developed enough, can lead to long hours and not enough time to follow up opportunties you can see which is frustrating. If there is no co-ordinator you get caught up doing the day to day stuff such as opening job bag and dealing with small changes on ads, this take time away from strategy and looking at the bigger plan for the client. Invoice, no- one loves processes invoices but does give you an idea of the client spending.

Only worked in an agency- Should I go Client Side?

  • People say there is more money
  • Haven’t done PR before so nervous about that
  • Writing is not my strongest point
